STEAM Defined

Our knowledge based twenty-first century global economy is driven by continuous innovation.  The basis of innovation lies in a dynamic workforce equipped with STEAM skills.  Our STEAM approach supports the mission of Boulder Valley School District which is to realize the Vision for the New Century Graduate: To graduate students in the New Century who have the knowledge, skills and personal characteristics that will make this world a safer, more thoughtful and more inclusive place in which to live.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics focus at Ryan Elementary School expands on the original math and science focus of the school by more clearly articulating the scope of the foundation, development, and opportunities we provide for our students.  The Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum, a standards-based educational promise for all BVSD students, is enriched and deepened with STEAM experiences during and beyond the school day.  We offer students a wide array of opportunities to take what they learn from the GVC and apply it.  The application happens inside the school building where all classrooms have SMART boards/SMART tables, document cameras, and 3D projectors, and outside in our outdoor science classroom and upcoming learning garden, and in the world through field trips.

This newly defined focus also connects our feeder elementary school to the engineering focus supported at Angevine Middle School and Centaurus High School.
